An Atlanta man has been arrested and charged with murder of Thomas Jefferson Byrd.
The 70-year-old Tony-nominated actor, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, who appeared in numerous films by the director Spike Lee, was found dead in Atlanta from multiple gunshot wounds on Oct. 3.
The Atlanta PD says "We followed evidence and tips that led us to identify the suspect, Antonio Demetrice Rhynes."
An arrest warrant was issued for Rhynes Wednesday and he was arrested Friday morning.
He's facing a felony murder charge for the shooting, which occurred near Byrd's Atlanta home. It's still unclear what led to the killing. Atlanta police used "drone-technology" to help arrest the suspect. Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of 30-year-old Rhynes on a felony murder charge based on evidence and tips from the public.
Spike Lee praised the actor on social media when Byrd’s death was announced earlier this month.
